It has been 12 years since Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have directed a movie. Of course, as you are probably aware, this comes with an asterisk. What makes this especially remarkable is just how prolific they were as directors – helming four feature films in a five-year stretch between 2009 and 2014, before settling into the producer role. This is somewhat reminiscent of George Lucas, who directed three films between 1971 and 1977 – who then didn't return to the director chair for 22 years. And for both Lucas, and Lord and Miller, Star Wars was involved.
