'The Devil Wears Prada 2' Is A Lot Like Another Movie That Came Out 20 Years Ago, 'The Devil Wears Prada'

The Devil Wears Prada was released in theaters 20 years ago and has, since, been played on a never ending loop on every cable television channel that exists. There's a good chance I've seen at least parts of The Devil Wears Prada more times than any other movie from the last two decades. It's become like Yacht Rock Radio, it's just nice to have on in the background because it's pleasant, I know all the beats, and I don't really need to pay attention.

I once asked Emily Blunt about the phenomenon of The Devil Wears Prada always being on cable and she said, "When I first met John, we were at his house and The Devil Wears Prada came on and I was like, 'Don’t watch The Devil Wears Prada.” And it was the montage where Andy is in all the different outfits. And he sat down and goes, 'that’s my favorite outfit.' He was waiting for it! Because he had seen it so many times!"

Doing my due diligence, the next time I interviewed John Krasinski, which wound up being for A Quiet Place, I followed up on his apparent love for The Devil Wears Prada. He did counter, "I don't make her watch it." But also adds, "It is the antithesis of channel-surfing. You can surf for as long as you want, it will kill the channel-surf immediately." He's right.

What's remarkable is, it's not like this is a movie that audiences found later. It made an enormous amount of money in theaters. So it's kind of nuts that a movie that made a fortune, with the added bonus of just never going away, took 20 years for a sequel to finally show up. Well, the wait is over. It's here. Apparently the world is finally ready for The Devil Wears Prada 2...
